Bay Harbor Foundation Requests 2010 Grant Applications

Bay Harbor, MI - The Bay Harbor Foundation is requesting letters of intent for 2010 projects of local nonprofit organizations. Organizations in Northern Lower Michigan with 501(c)(3) nonprofit designations may request grant funds for programs that support the arts, education, environment and health & human services.

The deadline for letters of intent is February 15, 2010. Letters of intent should include: 1. The Purpose of the project for which funds are required. 2. The community/regional impact of the project. 3. Preliminary budget and schedule of the project. 4. General information on the organization.

Preference will be given to proposals that will use Bay Harbor Foundation grant funds to match other charitable donations and for non-personnel related items.

Bay Harbor Foundation Program and Grant Committee will review letters of intent and will invite selected organizations by February 27, 2010 to submit application forms. Organizations invited to submit application forms will have until April 1, 2010 to complete the process. Grant award winners will be announced May 26, 2010.

30 Students Receive Scholarships

The Bay Harbor Foundation Scholar Program recently awarded $63,000.00 to 30 college students. Each recipient is either an employee of a Bay Harbor business or the child of an employee. Scholars must be enrolled as a full-time student in either a two or four year university or college.

This is the third year the Foundation has offered such scholarships. Each year money is raised through various venues including fund-raising events and private donations. Scholarship awards are a minimum of $2000.00 with $4000.00 being the maximum award this year. When asked about the impact of the scholar program one repeat recipient, Nathan Redner said, The scholarship program has had a profound effect on my ability to pursue a secondary education. The assistance and support the Foundation provided to me is appreciated more than words can express.

Twenty of this years winners are from the Northern Michigan area. There are thirteen residents from Petoskey, five from Charlevoix, one from Harbor Springs and one from Alanson. Schools represented include Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Grand Valley State University and North Central Michigan College. Next years application for the program will be available in early July and the recipients will be announced in early August.

The Bay Harbor Foundation also serves those that are a part of our immediate community. Our newly established Scholarship Program is one way that we can help those who are an active part of Bay Harbor. Employess of Bay Harbor and children/grandchildren of employees are eligible to apply. Scholar Applications must be submitted no later than July 19, 2011.
